MAILI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 42-year-old Waianae man died following a vehicle accident Wednesday evening on Farrington Highway, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., Patrick Mantanona, who was driving a pickup truck out of a gas station, attempted to turn into an eastbound lane of Farrington Highway, but was struck by a SUV operated by a 26-year-old Waianae female. Both Mantanona and his 53-year-old male passenger were transported to an area hospital in serious condition, but Mantanona was later pronounced dead, police said. The female driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The crash also knocked down a light pole that brought down some electrical lines, but there were no reports of any power outages.
Police temporarily closed Farrington Highway near Hookele Street to investigate.
It is unclear if speed and alcohol were factors.
