Brush fire scorches macadamia nut field in Wailuku

Maui fire crews battled a brush fire in a Wailuku macadamia nut field late Friday night.
Firefighters from Wailuku and Kahului responded to reports of brush on fire in the area of Kahekili Hwy and Makaala Dr. around 9:22 p.m. Upon arrival crews found about one-fourth of an acre of grass on fire in the old macadamia nut fields about a quarter-mile above the highway. Residents on Haunani St. reported seeing flames and smoke in the fields.
The fire was brought under control at around 9:42 p.m., and extinguished shortly before 10:30 p.m.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, according to MFD.
