Gas hits $3.90 in Honolulu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii average gas prices continued to drop this past week, with Honolulu slipping to $3.90 per gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

The current state price average is $4.01, two cents less than the past week, 16 cents less than last month, and six cents lower than a year ago.

Honolulu's average price dropped by three cents a gallon and is 18 cents less than on this date a month ago and seven cents less on this date a year ago. In Hilo, the average gas price is $3.96 per gallon, down one cent from last week, 11 cents less than last month and nine cents less than this time a year ago. Wailuku's average is $4.28 a gallon, down two cents from last Thursday, 11 cents lower than last month and a penny higher on this date last year.

"Average gasoline prices usually drop during the fall season due to decreasing demand. However, global oil prices have declined more than anticipated, as supply as outpaced demand, contributing to even greater savings at the pump for drivers," said AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. "A tally of state average prices around the country show: Alaska at $3.66 a gallon, California at $3.26 and Oregon at $3.09."
