Expert discusses using telecom cables to monitor tsunami activity

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

With two new fiberoptic networks planned both of which will land in Hawaii (one from the West Coast to the Philippines and one from the West Coast to New Zealand) a U.N. report is attracting attention because it proposes attaching sensors to transpacific cables to improve tsunami reporting.

UH Professor Rhett Butler, who has proposed this for years, talked about it with Howard Dicus.
