NORTH SHORE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The competitors for this year's Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau surf competition was announced Monday morning.
The 'Eddie' is held at Waimea Bay, on a single day during winter when, and if, waves exceed the 20-foot minimum requirement(wave face heights of approximately 40 feet). The official holding period for this year, the 30th annual, is December 1 through February 28.
The competition has only been held a total of 8 times: it's inaugural year at Sunset Beach, and then seven more times at its permanent home of Waimea Bay. The Eddie was last held on December 9, 2009, won by California's Greg Long. (Click to view photos from the 2009 'Eddie': http://bit.ly/1a8kUpc)
