FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team concluded a successful Big West Conference road trip, sweeping Cal State Fullerton 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 on Saturday night at Titan Gym. The 'Bows improved to 16-5 overall and 8-2 in league play.
Hawaii displayed a well-balanced performance on both sides of the net. Olivia Magill had a team-high eight kills, hitting .727 for the night with no errors. Nikki Taylor put down a match-high six blocks, Kalei Adolpho had seven kills and five blocks, and Tai Manu-Olevao added six kills and 12 digs. Savanah Kahakai started at libero and posted a career-high 17 digs.
Niki Withers and Megan Kurz led Cal State Fullerton (7-15, 1-8 BWC) each with a match-high 11 kills. Paige Reed added a team-best 17 digs.
The 'Bows never trailed en route to their opening set win. Kills by Manu-Olevao and Taylor helped UH to a 5-2 lead, then a kill from Magill extended the advantage to 13-9. After the lead swelled to six points the Titans made a run to cut the score to 21-19, but the 'Bows responded to hold on for the win.
UH had little trouble with CSF in sets two and three. Manu-Olevao's kill and block highlighted a 5-0 Rainbow Wahine run to all but put the set to bed. Hawaii led 15-6 at that point and rolled to the win. Set three saw the 'Bows run off five straight points midway through the frame and win going away.
Hawaii returns to action next weekend, hosting Long Beach State and CSUN in a pair of Big West matches at the Stan Sheriff Center.
