Maui County GMO Moratorium Ballot Initiative

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

With the election less than one week away, the GMO debate continues. The citizens asking for the GMO Moratorium refute every statement made by the Farming Ban campaign as misleading propaganda.

Dr. Lorrin Pang is the Chief Health Officer with Maui County, but acting as a private citizen, has many opinions and concerns.

According to Pang, no jobs need to be lost as seed companies sell plenty of other NON-GMO seeds that they can grow here. He says that it's not costly to taxpayers, just the corporations, as all expenses for the safety studies are to be paid for by the corporations. Any disadvantage to the companies is far outweighed by the loss of heath and well being that the general population of Maui is being subjected to by the presence of Monsanto' GMO crops and heavy chemical applications directly upwind from our schools and communities.

Dr. Pang joined Steve on Sunrise to discuss the issue further as the election that will decide what happens to GMOs in Hawaii approaches.
