New Malware Infecting Computers Demands Ransom for Fix

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

If you own a computer, beware. There's a new malicious software (malware) infecting computers, and the scary part is, owners don't know until it's too late.

Sunrise brought in computer expert, Yasuo Ogawa, from the computer repair service Cowabunga to explain exactly what this malware does and how computers become targets. Ogawa warns the infection occurs through flash player loading via pop ups and advertisements. Once the ad loads your computer is infected. After infection, users only become aware of the problem when they receive a "ransom" note after turning on their computer.

The note demands the infected party to send cash via Bitcoins in order to remove the software. The cyber villains also warn their victims to not try and decrypt the software because it will only be re-encrypted.
