BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Residents and visitors will no longer have to look at the famous "road closed" sign at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The sign is being removed this week and the path that leads to it will now be off limits.
Bulldozers are being brought in to begin on the park's end of the Chain of Crater's road. The two-lane road will be an emergency route if the Puna lava flow cute off all Hilo bound roads out of lower Puna.
The park service says visitors can expect delays Thursday and Friday when the heavy equipment is brought in to remove the sign.
The "road closed" sign will be preserved as part of the park's history.
