It turns out a Big Island man isn't the prime suspect in a machete attack.
Last week, police charged Atkinson Nakashima with attempted murder after an altercation in Hilo, where a 21-year-old man had an 18-inch gash from a machete.
The attack happened early Saturday morning around 2 a.m., and now police think it was Nakshima's 16-year-old brother who severely injured the victim.
Investigators say the teen came up from behind when he saw his brother was starting to lose a fight with the victim.
Nakashima is now only charged with assault.
