Storm triggers wastewater spill into Honolulu Harbor
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The City's Department of Environmental Services reported a 5,000 gallon sanitary sewer overflow from its Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Sunday afternoon.
Heavy rains and flows surcharged a manhole connected to a primary clarifier odor control system, sending thousands of gallons of partially treated wastewater into a storm drain, which drains into Honolulu Harbor.
The state Department of Health was notified and waived water sampling due to the weather. Signs will be posted Monday morning.
