Record rainfall in Hilo after Ana

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A record amount of rain fell over Hilo in the last 24 hours, leading to an extended Flash Flood advisory for the area, as Hurricane Ana continues to make her presence known over Hawai‘i Island. A total of 5.34 inches of rain fell since Friday -- with 4.5 inches on Saturday alone, breaking the 1990 record of 2.08 inches.

Residents captured cell phone video of raging waters at Waianuenue or Rainbow Falls after more than 12 inches of rain fell over Hawai‘i Island when Hurricane Ana passed by late Friday into the early morning hours of Saturday.
