HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for the west facing shores of the Big Island. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for the south facing shores of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Kahoolawe, and the Big Island.
Large swells from Hurricane Ana are impacting the south and west facing shores of the Big Island, and south facing shores of the islands of Maui County.
The High Surf Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Surf of 8 to 12 feet is expected to continue through Saturday afternoon. Forecasters expect conditions to include ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong long shore and rip currents.
