HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flood Advisory for the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County until 10:15 p.m. Monday.
At 6:48 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over the Northeast half of the Big Island of Hawaii. Thunderstorms associated with a low aloft will continue moving Northwest over the island.
This advisory covers the entire island of Hawaii. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 4:15 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
Additionally, a Special Weather Statement has been issued for the Big Island due to this storm system.
At 12:18 p.m., a line of strong thunderstorms was located from Kona Village resort to 13 miles east of Honaunau to 7 miles west of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. According to the National Weather Service, small hail, wind gusts to 40 mph, and frequent lightning are possible.
