MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Maui fire crews recovered a body from a vehicle that plunged 40 feet off a cliff Saturday morning.
Maui fire officials say the incident was initially reported by three divers who were spearfishing in the area around 8:44 a.m. They found the vehicle submerged underwater with a person still inside.
Upon arrival fire crews found the car about 40 feet below the top of the cliff. Officials say the car was submerged 10 feet underwater, and about 30 feet from the shoreline.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Donald Craig of Kihei, was removed from the vehicle and airlifted to a landing zone at the scenic lookout.
Police blocked off the scenic lookout along Honoapiilani Hwy. while they investigated.
