Resident escapes two-alarm Ewa Beach house fire

EWA BEACH, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Crews battled a two-alarm fire that destroyed a home in Ewa Beach Friday afternoon.

The fire on Pohakupuna Road was first reported around 12:30 p.m. when witnesses say a one-story home became fully engulfed in flames. The man inside managed to escape, but according to an EMS spokesperson, the 52-year-old resident suffered some injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Firefighters got the flames under control around 1:20 p.m. Police shut down Pohakupuna Street between Makule Road and Fort Weaver Road as crews mopped up.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Hawaii chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the affected residents.
