HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A High Surf Advisory has been issued for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north shores of Maui until 6 a.m. Saturday.
The National Weather Service said surf will build quickly through Thursday, peaking late Thursday night and Friday, gradually diminishing from Friday night into the weekend.
According to forecasters, north shore surf will reach 12 to 16 feet Thursday, increasing to 15 to 20 feet Friday. For west shores, surf will be 8 to 12 feet Thursday, increasing to 10 to 14 feet.
Impacts from the surf will be moderate, and include strong breaking waves, shore breaks, along with strong long shore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
