HONOLULU - Kalei Greeley had 10 kills to lead a well-balanced Rainbow Wahine attack and the No. 24 University of Hawaii women's volleyball team swept Cal State Fullerton 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The match was the Big West Conference home opener for the 'Bows who improved to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. Tai Manu-Olevao had nine kills and Nikki Taylor added seven more. Olivia Magill and Kalei Adolpho each contributed four kills with Adolpho adding a match-high five blocks.
Holland Crenshaw led the Titans (6-10, 0-3 BWC) with seven kills and McKenna Painton added six digs.
The opening set saw CSF jump out to a 7-1 lead before Hawaii came roaring back. On the heels of a 9-0 run, the 'Bows turned the six-point deficit into a 25-18 win. A Nikki Withers (4 kills, 4 digs) kill stopped the run but not the momentum and UH cruised to the win.
There would be no slow starts by the 'Bows in set two as they opened up an 11-3 lead. Adolpho had a block and a kill in the early run and the 'Bows looked prime to cruise to a two-set lead. CSF rallied and three times got within one point of tying the set, but down the stretch the 'Bows took control and used an 8-3 run to win going away.
UH returns to the court Saturday night, hosting UC Irvine in another Big West Conference contest. First serve at the Stan Sheriff Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
