Surfer pulled from water in critical condition

HONOLULU (AP) - A 32-year-old man found face-down in water off Waikiki Beach was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the man had been surfing Thursday but at noon was spotted floating 75 yards from shore in front of the Duke Kahanamoku statue.

Emergency Medical Services says the man's surfboard leash was off of his ankle.

The man's friends carried him to shallow water.

Lifeguards brought the man to shore and administered CPR.

Paramedics transported the man to a hospital.
