HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Keep the umbrella handy this weekend. Low clouds and showers are expected for much of Saturday, mainly for windward and mauka areas.
A band of clouds and showers will be moving over the state during the overnight hours into Saturday morning, with the possibility of locally heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
The wet weather is the result of a shear line to the north of the islands, coupled with an upper level low centered more than 400 miles to the south-southeast of Honolulu. There's also a lot of moisture that could be tapped by instability from the low.
Conditions should be a little drier Sunday, but trade winds will begin to back off, leading to light and variable winds possible for Monday and Tuesday.
