NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities have found 40,000 pieces of mail inside the Brooklyn apartment and vehicle of a New York City postal worker.
According to a federal court complaint, 67-year-old Joseph Brucato had been hoarding the mail he was supposed to deliver for the last nine years. He was arrested Wednesday after a supervisor noticed undelivered mail piled up in Brucato's car.
Brucato's attorney says his client suffered from depression and there had been days where he couldn't walk the mail route.
Officials say approximately 2,500 pounds of U.S. Mail was recovered, dating as far back as 2005.
Brucato has reportedly been suspended without pay, and a spokeswoman for the postal service wouldn't say how long it would take to deliver the stashed mail.
Brucato could face jail time for his crime.
