Police: Maui man dead after struck by excavator

KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man was found dead at a worksite in Kihei Thursday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Azeka's Mauka Shopping Center on South Kihei Road shortly after 1:30 a.m. to help an unresponsive man.

Paul Thomas Williams, a 61-year-old from Kahului, had been found lying on the ground. His co-workers say they last saw him working on their job site in the shopping center's parking lot.

Medics performed CPR, but Williams died at the scene.

According to Maui police, a preliminary investigation finds he was likely struck by an excavator. His exact cause of death has not been determined.
