Police arrest brazen backpack thief

Honolulu Police have made an arrest in a theft case that was caught on camera.

Gwendolyn De Luca was arrested last Friday for third degree theft, three days after a student from Hawaii Pacific University reported his backpack had been stolen.

Last Monday, Martin Molden, a second year grad student at HPU, left his backpack unattended at a café on Fort Street Mall and it was snatched up by De Luca.

A bystander had captured a clear photo on their cell phone of De Luca stealing Molden's backpack in broad daylight, and he immediately shared it on his Facebook page, hoping it would help him get his wallet and textbooks returned to him.

While Molden is happy to learn of De Luca's arrest, he says he hasn't gotten his belongings back yet.
