HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state Department of Transportation will remove cones from the Lunalilo Street on-ramp to the westbound H-1 freeway on Monday morning as it begins a two-week trial period to test traffic patterns.
The on-ramp is typically closed between 5:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to prevent traffic congestion in the area.
State officials say they want to reexamine the traffic effects of the on-ramp now that changes have been made to the freeway.
"With the completion of restriping of the H1 Freeway to four lanes in each direction between Punahou Street and the vicinity of Middle Street, the HDOT is conducting a trial to determine how removal will affect traffic flow during the morning peak congestion period," said HDOT Interim Director Ford Fuchigami.
State officials say they will be will be closely monitoring the traffic during the two-week trial.
