HONOLULU - Tai Manu-Olevao recorded her second double-double of the season and the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team swept Northern Arizona for the second straight night, Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-20, 25-23, 25-18.
Manu Olevao had 13 kills and her 16 digs were a new career high as the 'Bows close the preseason at 8-3 and winners of three straight. Hawaii served up nine aces with Tayler Higgins contributing four.
Lauren Jacobson led Northern Arizona with nine kills and 12 digs.
The 'Bows got off to a hot start on the opening set when Higgins won three straight points off her serve. NAU recovered though when a block and kill from Payton Bock (6 kills) helped even the set at 7-7. UH later took a 14-10 lead when Higgins and Olivia Magill (7 kills, 3 blocks) got in on a block. A Kalei Adolpho (8 kills) kill later gave Hawaii its largest lead of five points and the 'Bows cruised to the win.
Hawaii's seven unanswered points proved to be the difference in its set two win. Kalei Greeley (5 kills, 9 digs) had a pair of kills in the run to help UH gain control of the set. The Lumberjacks (9-2) responded when Bock's kill capped a 6-1 run to cut the lead to 19-18, but the 'Bows regrouped and held off the NAU charge for the win.
UH had to work for the sweep as the two teams went back and forth midway through the third set before an Adolpho kill gave the 'Bows the lead for good at 16-15. UH finished the set on a 7-1 run to clinch the sweep.
