Young female monk seal expected to recover after shark bite

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Monk seal researchers are asking the public to stay away from a recovering Hawaiian monk seal.

The young female seal, known as 401, was bitten by a shark back in May and lost her eye.

People were concerned that the green algae around her eye was a cause for worry, but experts say it isn't harmful and are hoping 401 will recover quickly.

401 has been known to sunbathe on the beaches on Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, and Maui.
