Aloha Festival kicks off cultural celebrations

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu's Aloha Festival kicked off celebrations on Saturday with traditional hula, music and chants at the Royal Grove at Royal Hawaiian Center.

During the opening ceremony, members of the Royal Court took their place on the grounds of Helumoa, originally the home of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop.

The annual festival has been showcasing Hawaii's unique heritage and history since 1946.

This year's Waikiki hoolaulea will be held on Saturday September 20, and a floral parade is scheduled the following week along Kalakaua Ave. from Ala Moana Park to Kapiolani Park.
