PAIA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Firefighters on Maui are battling two growing brush fires Wednesday afternoon that forced the evacuation of at least one nearby building.

The two separate cane fires were first reported before 2 p.m. in the area across the street from the Holy Rosary Church.

Crews from Paia, Makawao, Kahului, along with Air-1 and HC&S personnel on scene.

The first fire, which is approximately three to five acres in size, is about 75 percent contained. Baldwin Avenue is closed above the Holy Rosary Church and below the Paia Gym, and the A+ afterschool program in Paia is being evacuated.

Investigators have not determined the size of the 2nd fire, but Air-1 is making drops and fire crews are making access to the area.
