HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for parts of Oahu until 6:45 p.m.
At 3:36 p.m., radar showed heavy rain along the Koolau mountains from Kaaawa to Heeia with rain rate about one and a half inches per hour.
Rain gages at Ahuimanu and Hakipuu mauka recorded a third of an inch of rain in the past fifteen minutes while the Waihee pump Gage recorded almost half an inch of rain at the same time. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.
Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Punaluu, Waiahole, Waikane, Kahaluu and Hauula. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 6:45 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
Residents are urged to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
