MAKAKILO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - [Update 9/2]
Approximately 35 Honolulu firefighters battled the Makakilo fire Monday night, but the blaze continued to burn overnight. Firefighters are working with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources to contain the fire that started Aug. 22.
The stubborn Makakilo wildfire that started over a week ago flared up again on Sunday.
At last check, the flames were about 300 yards away from homes.
Crews are protecting properties and trying to douse the fire in the upper slopes of the Waianae range where the blaze is about 50 percent contained.
The wildfire, which was accidentally sparked by two boys playing with a lighter, has charred more than a 1,000 acres.
