Police officer injured after motorcycle accident in Waimanalo

Kalanianaole Hwy. reopened after traffic accident in Waimanalo


A solo bike officer landed in the hospital Sunday after colliding with a driver in Waimanalo.

The crash backed up traffic near Kaiona Beach Park around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Investigators closed Kalanianaole Highway from Bell Street to the makai pier near Sea Life Park for a couple of hours.

Police say a vehicle crossed the center line hitting the officer on the motorcycle, slamming the bike into a parked car.

The 31-year-old officer suffered serious injuries.

Eric Silva, the male driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody for driving without a license.

The 53-year-old was also tested for driving under the influence, but posted bail in the afternoon.

Honolulu police have reopened a portion of Kalanianaole Highway after a traffic accident near Kaiona Beach Park on Sunday morning.

Police officials say the accident happened on 41-0575 Kalanianaole Highway around 10:34 a.m. Officials say the motorcycle, driven by a police officer, and another vehicle were involved in the accident.

The victim, a 31-year-old officer, was taken to Queen's Hospital in serious condition.

HPD closed a portion of the highway from Bell Street to the makai pier shortly before 11 a.m. Roads were reopened around around 2:26 p.m.
