UPDATE: Waipahu man identified in drowning off Malaekahana Beach Park

The man who died in an apparent drowning in Laie on Saturday afternoon has been identified as Dante Biacan of Waipahu.

Officials said the 38-year-old man went unconscious while in the ocean water.

The cause of death is still pending, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.


A man lost his life after being pulled from the ocean off of Malaekahana Beach Park in Laie.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene just before 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The 38-year-old victim was unresponsive and taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

The case is classified as an unattended death.
