Around 2 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, Cleveland Police stopped a car for a traffic violation in the 9900 block of Nicholas.

Once at a halt, the 21-year-old unlicensed driver told officers that he had two small children in the back seat. He motioned to a home nearby and said the children could be dropped off at the address.

When officers knocked on the door of the home, the resident stated they didn't know the driver, who then fled on foot, leaving the children behind in the car.

The children, ages 1 and 8-years-old, were taken to the Jane Edna Hunter Center and the car was towed.

Investigators are working to determine who the children will be released to.

Authorities say a child endangering warrant will be issued for the suspect.
