Alcohol a factor in deadly golf cart crash in Wayne County

CHESTER TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

The Ohio Highway State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a E-Z Go Golf Cart that occurred at 1:14 a.m. on Saturday, August 30.

The incident happened on Lehr Road, east of Rathburn Road in Chester Township.

Authorities say three people were riding in the golf cart headed westbound on Lehr Road at the time of the accident.

42-year-old Craig L. Franks of Wooster, was driving the vehicle.  Robert M. Moore, 49, of Jeromesville, was the front seat passenger and Vicky L. White, 47, also from Jeromesville, was seated in the back seat.

A preliminary investigation reveals that Franks drove the golf cart left of center and off the left side of the road.  It rolled over an embankment and overturned, ejecting all three occupants.

Moore suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Franks and White were transported to Wooster Community Hospital by New Pittsburg EMS with non life-threatening injuries.

According to law enforcement officers, speed and alcohol contributed to the deadly crash.

Franks was charged with OVI, unsafe speed for conditions and for failure to maintain reasonable control.  He also faces additional charges pending the outcome of the blood alcohol test.  The crash remains under investigation.
