GARFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

High school football season kicked off with the Collinwood Railroaders taking on the Garfield Heights Bulldogs but it was the action in the stands and not on the field that caught everyone's attention.

Fans rumbled, police were called in and before long several people were arrested.  The game was called off and both teams took a loss.

"There should be disciplinary action taken but I hate to see they're going to take a win from them," said David Edmonds, a Garfield Heights parent.

Police are still investigating but parents and fans on both sides are upset.

"They shouldn't be blamed or penalized for people that want to be ignorant in the stands," said LaKeisha Smith, a Collinwood fan.

Garfield Heights school officials are waiting for the final report but the initial investigation reveals several of their students were involved.  They put out a statement saying, "those students of the Garfield Heights City Schools who were involved will be swiftly and appropriately dealt with.

In the meantime, Cleveland school officials have learned that a Cleveland resident and not a student was involved in the altercation.  The school spokesperson says should the district learn a Collinwood student was involved, they have a code of conduct and they will follow it when it comes to punishment.

"I think a few kids ruined everything," said Jane Hubbard, a Garfield Heights  P.T.A. mom who never misses a game.

Hubbard was in the bleachers watching the game and now she's just hoping the fight doesn't take a toll on the stadium renovation levy that's on the November ballot.

"I hope it doesn't....we need it," said Hubbard.
