Medical examiner identifies 2 drowning victims

HONOLULU (AP) - The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office has released the names of two California men who drowned off a Honolulu beach.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 32-year-old Michael Pui of Fountain Valley and Steve Tran of Santa Ana died off Kahala Beach.

A surfer helped a third man reach shore.

Honolulu police say the men who died were wearing fins as they swam about 6 p.m. Saturday but were reported as unresponsive.

Lifeguards reached the men about 500 yards off shore. The lifeguards performed CPR on the stricken men and paramedics rushed them to a hospital in critical condition.
