Hawaiian Airlines Foundation awards 3 grants

HONOLULU (AP) - A Molokai charter school is receiving a $50,000 grant from a new charitable foundation established by Hawaiian Airlines.

Kualapuu School will use the money to develop a science, technology, engineering and math curriculum. The public conversion charter school serves English and Hawaiian language immersion students from pre-kindergarten through 6th grade.

The Hawaiian Airlines Foundation said Monday it's awarding $25,000 to the PAI Foundation on Oahu to stage the 2015 Maoli Arts Month celebrating Hawaiian artists and cultural practitioners.

Papahana Kuaola will receive $25,000 to support the restoration of native plant species in the ahupuaa of Heeia on Oahu's windward side.

The foundation plans to award annual grants in three areas: education, programs perpetuating Hawaiian cultural knowledge and programs protecting Hawaii's environment.
