SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM/AP) -

The Springfield Police Department Detective Bureau continued to investigate the fatal shooting that occurred in the city's Sixteen Acres neighborhood early Friday morning.

The shooting, which was initially reported to have occurred near the drive-thru window of the McDonald's on Allen Street, occurred in Bicentennial Plaza.

Police identified the victim as a 25-year-old Agawam native that was residing in East Longmeadow, according to a report in MassLive.

A witness said the gunfire came from one vehicle and a man in a truck was struck in the back. The injured driver then attempted to flee, but crashed after driving a short distance.

The victim was rushed to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance where he later died. There was no word on arrests and the victim's name was not immediately released.

Detectives spoke with witnesses early Friday and continued to canvas the crime scene as of late Friday morning.
