After the Maui Police Commission has processed nearly 20 applications from those seeking to be the county's next chief, the odds have been narrowed down to six finalists:
- Captain Tivolifaaumu
- Retired HPD Major Moana Heu
- Retired Assistant Chief Larry Hudson
- Current Assistant Chief Victor Ramos
- Acting Chief Clayton Tom
- Former New York City Police Lieutenant
Chuck Tsang is also in the running to fill the vacancy created by Chief Gary Yabuta.
The volunteer commission will select Yabuta's replacement. He retired in July to become director of the federal High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas in Hawaii.
Yabuta's replacement could be named a day after public comments are taken on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Until then, Deputy Chief Clayton Tom is acting chief.
