HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A High Surf Advisory is in effect for the south facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, Kahoolawe and the Big Island.
According to the National Weather Service, a passing storm in the South Pacific several days ago has generated a large swell that is now reaching the islands. Beachgoers can expect this above normal swell to affect the south facing shores of all Hawaiian islands through Friday.
The High Surf Advisory will be in effect until 6 p.m. Friday. Surf is expected to reach 5 to 8 feet on Friday.
Conditions will also include strong breaking waves and strong rip currents that could make swimming difficult and dangerous.
