HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 62-year-old man is in extremely critical condition Thursday after a car hit him while he was riding his bike near Ward Avenue and Lunalilo Street, the Honolulu Police Department said.
According to HPD, the man was riding his bike down Ward Avenue and turned left into the crosswalk area at around 2:45 a.m. The driver, indentified as 26-year-old Nicholas Laniauskas, was heading westbound on Lunalilo Street in a Honda Fit, when he made a right turn and struck the bicyclist. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to the Queen's Medical Center.
Officers arrested Laniauskas for negligent injury and allegedly driving under the influence.
