Four-Episode YouTube Series Examines Private Economic Zones That Could Transform the Developing World

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today Reason TV and the Moving Picture Institute released a four-episode YouTube series about the revolutionary "startup city" concept. Startup cities are politically autonomous, privately run economic zones that operate within existing countries' borders.

Shot on location in Honduras by co-producers Zach Weissmuller and Ross Kenyon, the series features interviews with key figures in the startup city movement, investigates potential pitfalls, and examines the positive change these cities could create around the globe.

"With the highest murder rate in the world, a rampant drug trade, and political instability, Honduras may seem like the last place on earth where businesses would want to invest, and people would want to move," said Reason TV's Zach Weissmueller. "Startup cities could change that by creating real economic opportunities and innovative government structures, not just in Honduras, but around the world," added Moving Picture Institute fellow Ross Kenyon.

Episode I introduces the key players and concepts behind Honduran startup cities, known as ZEDEs. Episode II explores existing examples of experimental governance in Honduras, including entire towns commissioned and governed by private companies. Episode III delves into the history of the Honduran ZEDEs and highlights skeptics' concerns. Episode IV focuses on entrepreneurs who hope to create the first Honduran startup city. All episodes are available on Reason's YouTube channel:
