HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The late U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye will be honored in two ceremonies at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Wednesday.
A C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft will be dedicated in Inouye's name during a ceremony at 9 a.m. In keeping with the military tradition, the aircraft will be named "Spirit of Daniel Inouye."
At 12:30 p.m., the Hawaii Air National Guard will dedicate its new F-22 maintenance facility to Inouye, who was instrumental in securing federal funding for the F-22 jets. The $43 million facility provides a six-bay facility for general maintenance, fight planning, air crew briefing and debriefing, and avionics and egress shops. The facility is one of several projects in support of F-22 fighter operations and maintenance, totaling more than $195 million.
