2-A-Days: Green Oaks

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The Green Oaks Giants are looking to improve on last year's three and seven record. First year head coach Curtis Evans says the Giants came on strong to finish last season.

The Giants finished last year with a win against Bossier.

They only lost four seniors and enter the 2014 season under the leadership of 15 seniors.

Coach Evans has been the defensive coordinator for the Giants the past five seasons.

During fall camp, Green Oaks has been focused on tempo, working hard and finishing.

The Giants believe their biggest strength heading into the season is their defense.

Evans said, "We have ten returning starters defense. Offensively we only have five so our defense is gonna be our big strength. They're gonna help lead us into the season. And our offense is coming along real well this spring because we have a returner at quarterback with Jaylon Carey and our receiver Ralphielle Johnson and Briocean Savannah. They're gonna help lead our offense and get our offense caught up with what we're doing defensively."

The Giants had a competitive showing in their spring game against 4A power Franklin Parish.

Senior Strong Safety and Running back David Taylor says nobody can stop the Giants but themselves and this is their year.

Despite 15 seniors playing for their 4th head coach in as many seasons, senior Treyvon Lucky guarantees the Giants will make the playoffs.

Lucky said, "Defensively I say we wanna stop the run and get our offense to go on because we wanna make the playoffs. We wanna make our statement known in the city. So we gonna make the playoffs this year. Yes that's a guarantee I promise you."

The Giants will begin their quest for the playoffs against Plain Dealing on September 4th.
