SUMMIT COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Flames destroyed a service garage in Richfield Township Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out just before 6:00 a.m. on Boston Mills Road. 

Neighbors called police about 5:45 after hearing an explosion and seeing thick black smoke. 

As many as eight fire departments and about 50 firefighters responded to the three-alarm commercial fire. 

Firefighters said the garage was destroyed, and so was the contents inside. The garage houses the township's road equipment, among other items.

According to officials the garage was fully involved when they arrived on scene.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within an hour.

Richfield Township Assistant Fire Chief estimates about $1 million loss altogether. 

The cause of the fire is undetermined. 

The trustees are expected to hold an emergency meeting sometime today.
