Copper thieves strike prominent Hilo building

HILO, Hawaii (AP) - A Hilo building on property that's on the market for $8.25 million was the target of copper thieves last week.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald ( reports thieves on Thursday night or Friday morning struck the Wainaku Executive Center, the former headquarters of C. Brewer & Co.

The property is owned by a company controlled by the Edmund C. Olson Trust II.

Trust President Ed Olson says about 150 lineal feet of 4-inch copper pipe was taken - everything from about 20-feet high and lower.

The 11,800-square-foot building was built in 1924.
