Waikapu man dies after apparent drowning at D.T. Fleming Park
LAHAINA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A 43-year-old Maui man has died after he apparently drowned at D.T. Fleming Park on Maui Friday afternoon.
Maui police, fire, medic and lifeguard officials were dispatched to D.T. Fleming Park in Kapalua for reports of a missing diver shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses aboard the Teralani III Catamaran called for emergency personnel after they found a snorkel, mask and spear about a half mile offshore of Flemings, but did not see a diver.
Search crews located the missing diver face down about 3 miles offshore at around 1:50 p.m. Officials brought the victim to shore where he was pronounced dead.
MPD has identified the victim as 43-year-old Christopher Kuwada of Waikapu. Preliminary investigation reports show no sign of foul play. The cause of death has not been determined pending autopsy results.
