The city Medical Examiner's Office says James Pickard Jr. died from gunshots to the head and torso.
PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
The 51-year-old man who was shot and killed by Honolulu police in Pearl City last week has been identified.
James Pickard Jr. was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen car when he drove at officers trying to arrest him. The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office said Pickard died of shots to the head and chest.
Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha says officers never want to use deadly force, but in this case, the officers determined it was necessary. The department says the driver in the stolen Honda Accord rammed an officer's car and then tried to run over several cops.
Pickard was shot multiple times in the head and died at the scene. As Hawaii News Now first reported, he had been arrested 51 times and has 22 convictions, mostly for property crimes, but there is a resisting arrest conviction.
Police have had numerous complaints about the house on Komo Mai. Neighbors say it was a "drug house" with people coming and going at all hours of the night.
