HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii Gas is working closely with State Civil Defense to prepare for Hurricanes Iselle and Julio. Hawaii Gas crews have secured equipment and facilities on all islands. Hawaii Gas has also begun to fill and top off gas supplies at hospitals and essential government and emergency response facilities.
Essential employees are being scheduled to assist in any emergency response that may be needed. The Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) Plant in Campbell Industrial Park on O'ahu is operating and personnel are closely monitoring the status of Hurricane Iselle. The company currently has an adequate supply of feedstock for the SNG Plant. As an added layer of energy security, the company is also preparing its propane-air and LNG backup units at Pier 38 as a double redundant backup to the SNG Plant.
Hawaii Gas also has over 30 days of on-hand propane supply throughout its bulk propane storage facilities on all major Hawaiian Islands. The company has the ability to move supply between bulk propane storage facilities as needed. Hawaii Gas also sources propane from the two local refineries and foreign imports, ensuring a reliable supply.
Hawaii Gas is advising its propane tank and cylinder customers not to shut off their gas supply unless notified to evacuate their premises by local authorities. If customers are ordered to evacuate and must shut off their gas, only a trained Hawaii Gas employee can turn it back on.
