Honored HPD officer arrested on suspicion of sex assault

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A Honolulu police officer who is a previous recipient of HPD's highest award, was arrested on Saturday.

Hawaii News Now has learned that a 30-year-old officer has been booked on suspicion of sex assault and kidnapping.

He was arrested at about 3:45 a.m. this morning on Keonaona St. in Liliha.

Police have not released any specifics on the allegations, but the officer has not yet been charged..

In 2011, the officer had received HPD's highest award -- the warrior gold medal of valor -- for shooting back at a car thief who had crashed on Kalanianaole Hwy. in Kahala.
